John R. “Dick” Oblon, 81, beloved husband of Ann M. Kelly Oblon, died on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Masonicare of Wallingford, after a 9 month illness. Born in Meriden on August 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Wanda Oblon Macknicki. He was a lifelong Meriden resident and attended King St. school and St. Stanislaus School. Mr. Oblon was employed by L. Suzio Company with 42 years of service until his retirement. He was also employed by Birch Laundry, Meriden Welding and International Silver Co. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the National Guard. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, a member of the Polish Knights Club, the American Legion Post #45 and the P.L.A.V. He loved to travel, enjoyed going on family vacations, specially teaching all his children to swing. Dick was a fan of the Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys. He was a manager of Fred Sunoco Softball League and help managed the Spot Rest. Softball League. He was one of the group of people responsible for getting lights up at Lincoln Field Besides his loving wife of sixty years, he is survived by two daughters; Barbara Lubusko and Cynthia Cox, three grandchildren; Jason Oblon, James Woronick and Ashley Cox and a great grandson Juston Woronick. He was predeceased by his son Scott Oblon in 2002. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 10:00 am at the John J. Ferry & Son Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 8th from 5 to 7 pm.
