Helen Chalifoux

Helen Chalifoux, wife of the late Edmund Chalifoux, died at Hospice at Masonicare on Friday, November 13, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Meriden, CT on November 12, 1922, to the late Jan and Zofia (Porkaszek) Buksa. Helen attended St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School in Meriden. She was employed at New Departure in Meriden in her early years and later at G. Fox at the Meriden Square and at Holiday News. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden. Helen is survived by daughters, Lynn Buck and husband Morris of Meriden; Diane Dunn and husband Jeffrey of Chester, New Jersey; her son, Craig Chalifoux and wife Christina of Meriden; grandchildren David Buck, Matthew Buck, Dina Parla and wife Lisa, Michael Parla and wife Lisa, Jacqueline Dunn, Gina Kaminski and husband Michael, Thomas Chalifoux and wife Amanda. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Adam Kaminski, Robin Kaminski, Samuel Parla, Sarah Parla and Ethan Parla; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Buksa; brothers-in-law, Rocco Alia and Paul Valliere and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stephanie Dunn. Helen enjoyed a wonderful life of taking care of her family and home. Always there for everyone, she gave of herself unselfishly. She enjoyed a full life and was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. Being a child of the Depression, and losing her mother at the young age of ten years, Helen appreciated all that she had and was never frivolous or wasteful. She will be remembered for her devotion to and love of family and for her great love of God. Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at MidState Medical Center on Pavilion E, the staff of the Critical Care Unit, Chaplain Doreen Bottone, for her caring and compassionate guidance and support, and the hospice team at Masonicare. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, November 17th at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center Street, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
