It is with unbearable sadness and grief that we relay the passing of Herbert Martin Babbitt, 51, beloved husband of Cynthia (Davis) Babbitt on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 while waiting for a heart transplant. Dedicated son, loving husband, and caring father, Herb was born to Nelda (Kessinger) Babbitt and the late Stanley Babbitt on April 29, 1964 in Norwich, Connecticut. He was raised in Cromwell, educated in the local public schools, and graduated from Xavier High School in Middletown. He was a graduate of McAllister School for Mortuary Science of New York City. Herb was a funeral director/embalmer for 30 years, employed at one funeral home for his entire career – John J. Ferry & Sons, of Meriden, Connecticut. He was eager to get back to his mission in life – helping others in their time of need. Herb was a man known for his toys and hobbies. His love was for Mustangs; he was always looking for that next project, and bringing out the trailer to haul someone’s broken car. He was always willing to “turn a wrench” with someone. He loved looking forward to bringing out the toys for the next season. Motorcycling and boating in warm weather and snowmobiling in Vermont in winter. Herb was a member of the Cromwell Outboard Association and the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association. His quiet, loving presence will be desperately missed. Besides his loving mother and beloved wife, he is survived by his son, Gary Bowers, Jr.; his daughter, Stacey Bowers; his brother, Mark Babbitt of Cromwell and his daughter Julia; his brother, Ken Babbitt of Cromwell and his sons, Dylan and Samuel; his sister, Veronica Gee and her husband John, their daughter Ashley and two sons, Paul and Michael, all of Summerville, SC; his brother, Quentin Babbitt of Cromwell, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 12 noon with Reverend Alden C. Barnes officiating at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9 to 12 noon. The family would like to thank Herb’s “partners” at work – Kim and Craig – he loved you dearly. Thank you to so many teams at Hartford Hospital, but especially the Heart Failure Group, the Transplant Team and LVAD Team. You all gave Herb two more years of real quality life. A very special thank you to Jamie and Marisa, and all the Bliss 9 staff who gave such loving care to Herb. In lieu of flowers, PLEASE consider being an organ donor. Visit: https://registerme.org/
