Andrew V. Schipke, 93, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Apple Rehab-Cocommo. Born in Meriden on April 5, 1920, he was a son of the late Andrew M. and Martha (Schilke) Schipke. Mr. Schipke graduated from St. Mary School and Horace C. Wilcox Technical School. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1939. He was at Pearl Harbor during the attack and then fought in the Pacific area during World War II. He then went on to Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a Sergeant Major in 1966 after twenty-six years of active service. Mr. Schipke leaves behind his sister Miss Rose E. Schipke of Meriden. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard Schipke and Robert Schipke; his sister, Marguerite (Schipke) Hummer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10:30 am from the from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 5 Sherman Place, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in the Spring. Friends may call prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
