Marie Griffith, 100, wife of the late Henry Griffith, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Apple Rehab-Coccomo after a short illness. Born in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, New Brunswick, Canada on May 3, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Madeline Cormier. She had resided in Meriden most of her life. She emigrated from Canada to Rhode Island. After her marriage to Henry, they moved to Meriden, where they lived all their years except for a few years spent in New Mexico. Mrs. Griffith was employed by the International Silver Company for eighteen years. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and a member of Ladies of St. Anne and the Franco-American Club. Marie was an avid and lucky bingo player. She spent many enjoyable evenings with friends playing her favorite game.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Mark Langevin of New York and Joseph Schrader of Las Vegas, Nevada; two great grandchildren, Jason and Michael Schrader of Las Vegas, Nevada; many loving nieces and nephews that reside locally, in Canada and across the US. She was predeceased by her husband the late Henry Griffith; her son, Joseph “Roger” Langevin; six sisters, Marguerite Laurendeau Barrieau of CT, Annie Melanson of Canada, Jeanne Nolan of Canada, Irene Arsenault of Canada, Leona Comier of Canada and Eva Gura of Meriden and three brothers Elias, Roger and Alphie Cormier, all of Canada.
The funeral will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 9:15 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 am at St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp Street, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 38 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854-2328.
