Josephine Phyllis Luca, 92, wife of the late Natale (Nate) Luca, died on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Westfield with her loving daughters, Lorraine and Evelyn and her wonderful sons-in-law, David and Jim at her side. Born in Hartford on March 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Anna (Presta) Armentano. She had resided in Meriden most of her life and attended Hartford schools. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mrs. Luca enjoyed taking various bus trips and loved to cook for her family. She was a member of the Senior Center and was active at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Her life revolved around her family and she cherished her grandchildren, Robert and Kevin and her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Luca treasured her brothers and sisters and her in-laws.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (James) Gamble and Evelyn (David) Grossman; two grandchildren, Robert (Iwona) Hillburn and Kevin (Diane) Hillburn; five great-grandchildren, Jason Chasse, Jessica Hillburn, Jacob Hillburn, Nicholas Hillburn and Stephanie Hillburn; two brothers, Francis (Barbara) and Thomas (Ruth) Armentano and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by siblings Rose, Yolanda, Domenic and Anthony.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday. December 31, 2013 at 9:15 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
Mrs. Luca’s family would like to thank Amy Pellerin, Administrator and the caring staff at Westfield for making her as happy and comfortable as she could be.
