Edith L. Heidtmann, 94 of Meriden, wife of the late Rudolph A. Heidtmann, died on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Masonicare in Wallingford after a long illness. Born in New Haven, CT on August 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Doty Recor. Edith was very active in the Main Street Baptist Church and later with the First Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at the church thrift store and the Meriden Soup Kitchen. Edith was a lover of all animals and enjoyed cooking, knitting and reading. She was a fun, loving person with many friends but most of all, she loved her family and always put her children first. She is survived by her three children. Shelley A. Sundberg, and her husband Robert Sr. of Meriden; Gary J. Dummitt, and his wife Deborah of Plantation, FL and Joseph F. Dummitt Jr. and his fiancée Frances Foley of Cheshire. Five grandchildren; Robert (Yvonne), Jennifer, Lisa, Justin (Charlotte) and Jonathan. Four great grandchildren: Joshua, Jayden, Jazmine and Jacob. Two nieces Barbara Bruneau and her husband Bill of IN and Marilyn Shunk and her husband Carl of CO and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Irving W. Recor and his wife Ann and sister Jessie Boyton and her husband Chester. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Brian Thomas Signor, 51, loving husband of Lori Zagorski Signor died unexpectedly on February 29, 2016. He was born in Meriden on December 3, 1964. He was the son of Lynn J. Signor of Meriden, CT and the late, Linda Signor Hedenberg and her husband, Donald, of Barkhamstead, CT. He resided in Meriden. CT and graduated from Orville H. Platt High School. He spent his career as a meat cutter and was a long time employee of A &P and Big Y. Brian was an avid sports fan, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds and Phoenix Suns. For many years, he played in the Meriden Men’s basketball and softball leagues. He also enjoyed being outdoors fishing, golfing, swimming and riding waves in the ocean. Lake George and Hague N.Y. are his second home and where he will rest. Besides his wife, he is survived by his beautiful daughter, Monica Kay and his handsome son, Derek Brian, of Meriden, CT. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Signor Pappas and her husband, Stratos of Cheshire; his brother, Robert Henry Signor of Waterbury, CT; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, John, Richard, Karl and his late wife, Janice, Robert and his wife, Polly, Gail Burrows and her husband, Richard; his nieces, Emily, her husband Seth and their son Max, Ashley and Kristina and his nephews, Erik and Jacob. Gary John Arabasz, 58, died on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at his home. Born in Meriden on October 13, 1957, he was the son of Regina Buijnorouski Arabasz and the late Walter T. Arabasz. He was a lifelong Meriden resident and graduate of Platt High School. Mr. Arabasz was employed by the North Haven Postal Office retiring after 25 years of service. He was a peace time veteran having served with the U.S. Navy. He attended St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Post Office Union Stewards. He was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed reading by the beach. Besides his mother, he is survived by his four sisters, Bonnie (Dale) Doak, Louis (Robert) Montemurro, Mary (Howard) Cossette and Denise (Christopher) Minott and his two brothers, Walter T. Arabasz Jr. and John (Lisa) Arabasz. Gary is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant brother Walter Arabasz. Nancy Sackman
Nancy L. (Sattler) Sackman, 83, wife of the late William Sackman Jr., died on March 2, 2016 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, CT after a short battle with leukemia. Born in Meriden, CT on April 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Clarence Conreaux and Pauline Nichodemski Conreaux. She resided in South Meriden for 61 years and then Cheshire for 22 years. Nancy graduated from Central Connecticut State College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Masters of Art. Mrs. Sackman was employed by the Meriden Board of Education as a long-time school teacher at Hanover Elementary School in South Meriden where she touched the lives of thousands of students until her retirement in June 1994. She was for many years a parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden. Nancy was a member of the Farms Country Club of Wallingford, CT, PIMMS, a project to increase mastery of mathematics & science at Wesleyan University and Delta Kappa Gamma National Society (DKG). She is survived by her daughter Kelly (Sattler) Quinlan and her husband Peter Quinlan; her two sons, Christopher Sattler and his wife Mary (Zaleski) Sattler and Michael Sattler; her step-daughter Ellen Sackman; two step-sons, Steven Sackman and his wife Stephanie (Dugan) Sackman and William Sackman, III; five grandchildren, Bailey Quinlan and Yuta Kanai, Michaela Quinlan, Jessie Sattler and Carley Sattler; eight step-grandchildren, Erin (Jackson) and Joseph Trawick-Smith, Jeanne-Marie Jackson and Leon Dekock, Sheridan Sackman, McKenna Sackman, Emily (Sackman) and Carl Conrad; four nieces, Pamela Chausse-Bauch, Nancy (Chausse) Feola, Carol (Chausse) Provost and Kathy (Chausse) Huntington; two nephews, Thomas Chausse and William Chausse. Helga Aguredakes, 77, died on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at MidState Medical Center. Born in Germany on May 13, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Marie. She was a long time Meriden resident.Mrs. Aguredakes loved the outdoors, the ocean and taking long country drives. She enjoyed the casinos and especially family gatherings.She is survived by her three children; Iris Long, Herb Johnson and Jenny Hotchkiss, a sister, Lore Craven, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and her lifelong friends, Hazel and Kenny Bryans. Olga Novicki, 93, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Novicki. She was born in Woonsocket, RI , but was a lifelong resident of Meriden and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Sunshine Club for many years. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the Revere Corporation of Wallingford. She is survived by her children, Dan Novicki and his wife Bernadette and daughter, Andrea Adduci and husband Ernie; her grandchildren Jason Adduci and wife Christine, Michael Adduci and Allison Rand. She was predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Novicki. Lorrean P. Lacy, 76, beloved wife of Edward H. Lacy passed away on March 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family after a 16 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Howland, ME on October 9, 1939 to the late Philip and Beulah Paradis. Lorrean resided in Meriden for most of her life and graduated from Meriden High School and Laurel Business College. She was employed by The Napier Co., Luby/Olson and The Lane Construction Co. as an Executive Secretary. Lorrean and her husband Ed formed ELKS Manufacturing and retired from the business. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Lorrean was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, dance, and go boating, even if she did get a little squeamish handling bait. Besides her beloved husband, she is survived by her three children, Edward Lacy, III and his wife Ann, Pamela “Penny” Camire and her husband Robert of Meriden and Sharon Lacy of Baltimore, MD; her six grandchildren, Casey and Alex Camire, Jack, Sarah, Lauren and Michael Webb; her brother, Gary Paradis of Vernon and her sister, Teresa and husband Gerald Leonard of Lincoln, ME and She is also survived by her aunt, Jane Allen and several nieces and nephews. Margaret B. DiPietro, 92, of Meriden, wife of the late Anthony J. DiPietro, died on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Midstate Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Meriden on September 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Enoch and Helen (Schroeder) Beal. She was a lifelong resident of Meriden. She helped manage her husband’s business, “The Checker Cab Company” for many years and later she worked at The Napier Company before her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden and Zion Lutheran Church in Wallingford. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by five children, Donna Albert and her husband Don of Barnstable, MA, David DiPietro of New Britain, Darryl DiPietro and his fiancée Tracy Grajewski of Plainville and Daniel DiPietro and his wife Traci of Alabama; one stepdaughter, Karen Farmer of Georgia; four grandchildren Heather, Anthony, Cassondra and Cole; six great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Thomas, Nevada, Tessa, Abel and Hunter and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Bazinet and Augusta Peregrin and a brother Charles Beal. Anita P. Noel, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Waterford, Maine on April 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Leo and Ruth (Elliott) Walton. She was a longtime Meriden resident and had graduated Sanford High School in Sanford, Maine. Anita was employed by Gilmartin Dodge Plymouth then Roberts Dodge for fifty-five years. She always loved going to work every day and would even take work home with her. Anita was an avid reader. She is survived by one daughter, Leslie Carrier and her husband Peter; two grandchildren, Jennifer Myers and her husband David, and Joseph Carrier and his wife Angela; one great-grandson, Benjamin; two beloved nieces, Mary Burdette and Joan Noel Taylor; one great nephew, Peter Taylor and one great niece, Kate Johnson. John Hineline
John Hineline, 64, of Meriden, died on Monday, March 14, 2016 unexpectedly at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Meriden on October 16, 1951, he was the son of the late Byron and Vera (Ticino) Hineline. He was a lifelong Meriden resident. John was a machinist at several different manufacturing companies throughout Meriden. He loved fishing, NASCAR and ZZ Top and he collected owls. John is survived by two sons, Matthew Hineline of Meriden and Jody Lynes of Shelton; one dautghter, Jennifer Green of Meriden; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Sgambelluri and her spouse, Jeffrey Haniewski of Meriden; one sister, Mary Connors and her husband Charles of Meriden; one brother, David Hineline of Meriden and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carmella Brookes. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
Marion Zajac
Marion T. Zajac, 92, of Meriden, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Midstate Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Ferdinand A. Zajac. Marion was born in Winthrop, Maine on March 22, 1923, daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn Tully. She resided in Meriden and retired from Medicare. She enjoyed spending summers in Cape Cod with her granddaughters and her passion was knitting and crocheting gifts for family and friends. She knitted thousands of hats over the years for the Midstate Cancer Center. Family and friends referred to Marion as an energizer bunny. She was an avid fan of UCONN Basketball and the Red Sox. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Kos and her husband Raymond of Wallingford, and her son Thomas Zajac of Meriden. She was a loving grandmother to Samantha Zajac, Kaitlyn Kos, Christine Rall and her husband Keith and great grandmother to Taylor Rall. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Jones of Maine, a caring brother-in-law, John Zajac and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers. Marion recently moved to the Bradley Home in Meriden where she was welcomed with open arms by staff and residents. She will miss the new friends that she made there. Her family would like to thank Dr. Neil Scollan and his staff for their compassion and kindness to Marion. Julian Tencza
Julian Joseph Tencza, 94, husband of the late Victoria (Chmura) Tencza, died on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Harrison at Heritage in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Meriden on January 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Apolonia and John Tencza. He resided in Meriden all of his life and graduated from Meriden Public Schools. Mr. Tencza was employed by New Departure prior to his retirement. He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corp and retiring with the rank of LT Colonel from the U.S. Air Force. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Tencza flew in 25 combat missions in a B-26 Marauder, over France and Germany during World War II. During one mission he was shot down and was missing in action for four days before turning up in Paris. He loved to fly. Since his retirement from the Air Force, he logged more than 10,000 hours of flying time. He regularly flew and gave flying lessons out of Meriden-Markham Airport. He is survived by three sons, Robert C. Tencza of Meriden, Ronald J. Tencza and his wife Terry of Spring Hill, Florida and William Tencza and his wife Laura of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Tara Holzmiller and her husband August, Robert J. Tencza and his wife Danielle, Julie Klumas and her husband Josh and Ronald M. Tencza and his wife Annabell; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Mackenzie, and Brooklyn Holzmiller, Troy and Trent Klumas and Julian E. and Alexandria Tencza; one sister, Genevieve Damm and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Benjamin, Edward and John Tencza. Michael Camire
Michael D. Camire, 42, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Yale New-Haven Hospital. Born in Meriden on Christmas Day, 1973, he was the son of the late Linda Campbell Camire and Vincent Camire of Middletown. He graduated in 1992 from Middletown High School and attended Manhattan Community College in NYC. Those who knew Mike would recognize in him a kind and gentle heart and soul. He was a very private person and not wanting to trouble others, would keep his problems and emotions to himself. Yet Mike would always reach out to others to comfort them in times of need. Mike was always readily available to watch his nephews, and take them out to the library and Dunkin’ Donuts. He enjoyed, and was excellent at teaching his nieces and nephews chess, to the point where they could often beat their parents at it. He had an incredibly broad range of interests, including politics, religion and history. As for his own religion, he once described himself as a Roman Catholic Yankees fan. He loved to read fantasy and science fiction. He was happiest among a crowd of family and his broad ranging discussions with his cousin Casey were legendary. He was considered the resident expert and champion at Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit, often forgoing the board to just trade questions with brother-in-law Andy. Mike will be remembered as a gentle giant of a man in all aspects of his person, and his absence will leave a large hole in all our lives. Besides his father Vincent, he is survived by his two sisters, Lisa Grant of Middletown and her two sons John-Vincent and David, Theresa Kelly and her husband Andy and their two daughters, Rosalee and Campbell of Andover, CT; his grandmother, Mrs. Elphege Camire of Meriden and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Marie E. (Sargalski) Downes, 99, wife of the late Henry T. Downes, Jr., died Monday, January 4, 2016 after a brief illness at her home in NC. Henry and Marie were owners of Downes Café for many years. Marie also worked at GM-New Departure in Meriden and Bristol, CT for over 20 years. Born in Wallingford, CT on February 6, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Anna (Schulz) Sargalski and Joseph Sargalski. She was a resident of Meriden and Wallingford, CT for many years, and in the past 10 years lived in TX, IL, SC and NC. Marie was an avid fan of her beloved New York Yankees, keeping score for every game and staying up way past her bedtime to catch the late games when they played on the West Coast. Marie brought so much joy to her family. She loved when her family was together. Marie (Meme) cherished her granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Marie is survived by her daughter Donna (Downes) Fraher and her son-in-law Andrew Fraher; her three granddaughters Sarah Hatch and her fiancée Ryan Humphrey, Jilian Hatch and Maura (Hatch) McCrillis and her husband Tobin; her great-granddaughter Alyssa Gans and several nieces and nephews. Marie is also survived by Liz Moreland, who has been a special friend of the family. Marie was predeceased by her brothers Edward Sargalski and his wife, Edna, her brother, John Sage, and her sister Estelle (Sargalski) Kozak and her husband Stanley Kozak. Anthony Magnoli
Anthony “Tony” J. Magnoli, 86, of Meriden, passed away on March 31, 2016, surrounded by loved ones after a sudden illness. Born in Meriden on February 22, 1930, the son of the late Anthony and Angelina “Nellie” Magnoli, he graduated from Meriden High School in 1948, entered the armed forces and was honorably discharged after the Korean conflict as sergeant first class. Mr. Magnoli was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He began a successful career in sales, most recently as general sales manager at Roberts Camper Center. Tony especially enjoyed equity investing throughout his life as well as discussing the national political scene. He was an avid reader and a champion of the underdog. He spent many wonderful years with his wife Joan. He was a fine man, with an exceptionally good nature who had a positive influence on anyone he came in contact with. Tony will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, his daughter Sheree Ann Cotrona and her husband Don, his son Anthony Sterling, as well as two grandsons, “D.J” Cotrona of Los Angeles and Justin Cotrona of Meriden. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marilyn Magnoli of Meriden and Elaine Glennon of Peabody, Massachusetts as well as a niece and two nephews. Kevin Couture, 60, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his home. Born in Meriden on November 24, 1955, son of the late Gerald J. and Rochina (Giordano) Couture, he was a life-long Meriden resident. He attended St. Rose School, Maloney High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Central Connecticut State University. Kevin was employed by Pratt & Whitney as an Aerospace Engineer. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. Kevin was a gifted musician and artist. He played with several talented musicians and was an outstanding drummer and singer. Kevin loved to cook gourmet meals from produce that he grew in his garden. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and in nature. He is survived by one daughter, Samantha Couture; one son, Mark Couture; one sister, Camille Couture; his dear friend, Trudy Voisine and many more loved family and friends. Joseph Belanger
Joseph Raymond Belanger, 86, husband of the late Carmen (Roy) Belanger, died on Sunday, April 10, 2016 following a brief illness. Born in Meriden on October 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Elzear and Marie Vitaline (Bolduc) Belanger of Saint Ephrem-de-Beauce, Quebec, Canada. He had resided in Meriden for over sixty years. Raymond was a master machinist for forty years and worked on the Hubble Space Shuttle. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and a member of the Meriden Knights of Columbus. Raymond was the past President of the Franco-American Club, where he was a member for fifty years. He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Connell and her husband Vernon G. of Simsbury and Carol Zeiler of Columbia; four grandchildren, Vernon B. Connell, Wesley R. Connell, Jill Giulietti and Lisa Poirier; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Eva and Ethan; two sisters, Pauline and Louisette and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanne Belanger. The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Laurent Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp Street, Meriden, CT 06450.
Jules Perreault
Jules R. “Wheaties” Perreault, 90, beloved husband of Emma (Stagon) Perreault, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Born on November 12, 1925 in Meriden, CT, he was the son of the late Julius and Lucy (Kissenbarth) Perreault. Wheaties graduated from the Meriden Trade School in 1944 where he was a standout basketball player. He went on to play at UConn for two seasons, but after his father had a heart attack, he returned to Meriden to run the family business, Perreault’s Radiator Shop, where he worked for over 60 years. He was an usher and longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church, until its closing, then became a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed getting away each weekend to his cottage in Matunuck, RI, where he would go fishing in his Boston Whaler and clamming in Potter’s Pond. In addition to his outdoor activities, he looked forward to listening to guest speakers and playing cribbage every Tuesday with the Y’s Men of Meriden at the YMCA. He was a big fan of the UConn girls’ basketball team. Besides his wife of 65 years, he leaves five children, Denise Fiedler and her husband Stephen of Ludlow, MA; Michele Coppa and her husband Michael of South Kingstown, RI; Jules and his wife Laure of Wallingford, CT; Peter and his wife Lee of Farmington, CT, and Stephan and his wife Wendy of Danbury, CT. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Erich and Kathryn Fiedler, Kristen Martin, Elizabeth Coppa, Justin and Melissa Perreault, Bethany and Jessica Perreault, and Stephan and Ryan Perreault. In addition, he is survived by his cousin Janice Holda of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Burkhardt and her husband Leigh. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church prior to the service from 10 to 11 am. The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden is entrusted with the arrangements. Dorothy Ward
Dorothy J. Ward, 81, died on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Lexington, Massachusetts on January 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Mildred (Fenton) Sayward. She was a longtime Meriden resident and had graduated from Meriden High School and attended Bard College in New York. Dorothy was a Mary Kay consultant for over thirty-five years. She was very active in Community Theater as an actress and director. She loved music, piano and vocal. She was an avid reader and a cat lover. She is survived by three sons, Stephen Ward and his wife Maria, Jeffrey Ward and his wife Deborah and Allan Ward and his wife Donna; five grandchildren, Gregory Ward, Christopher Ward, John Sola, Marissa Lyttle and Alexis Ward; two great-grandchildren, Carson Lyttle and Jordyn Lyttle. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Betty Ward and her longtime companion Clair Roy. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 7 pm at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 4 to 7 pm. Stephen Zimmer
Stephen Zimmer, 51, husband of Christine Mason, died on April 14, 2016 in the comfort of his home after a long illness. His bravery and strength inspired us all. Born in Meriden on December 8, 1964, he was the son of Ann Marie Dorsey Zimmer Dorflinger and the late Richard Zimmer. Stephen resided in Moodus and was known to be a meticulous, hard worker and a loyal friend. He loved to fish, play golf and cook for friends and family. Stephen loved fine wines, was an inventor and also served with the U.S. Army Reserve. Besides his wife Christine, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Janet Mason, father-in-law, Jeff Mason, sister-in-law, Lisa Beltchev, Christine’s grandmother, Evelyn Mason, a brother, Rick Zimmer and his wife Ida and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 10:30 am at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
