Grace Dezinno

Grace C. Dezinno, 90, of Ocoee, Florida, formerly of Waterbury and Meriden, wife of the late Benjamin N. Dezinno, Jr., passed from this life on Monday, January 4, 2016 in the presence of her children. Mrs. Dezinno, daughter of the late Pasquale and Pasqualina (DelNigro) Cofrancesco, was born in Cerreto Sannita, Italy where her parents were visiting. She was raised in Waterbury and moved to Meriden in 1958. She was the owner of Graebers Pharmacy, retiring in 1997. She then retired to Florida in 1998. While living in Meriden, Mrs. Dezinno was involved in many community activities; Board Member of the Meriden Girls Club, Mattatuck Fife & Drum, Cub Scout den mother, Harlequin Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Elks # 35. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church where she was a member of the choir and for many years a soloist for weddings and funerals there. Grace Dezinno is survived by her four children, Roger Dezinno and Attorney William Dezinno, both of Meriden, Benjamin Dezinno III and Margaret Dorman and her husband Jon Dorman of Florida. She is also survived by her youngest brother, A. Charles Cofrancesco and his wife Miranda of Florida, and grandchildren, Michael Dezinno, Christine Bruno, Benjamin Dezinno IV, Daniel Dezinno, and Nicole Dorman. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Michael and Anthony and many nieces and nephews and lasting friends. Mrs. Dezinno is predeceased by three brothers, Louis Cofrancesco, Dr. Richard Cofrancesco and Edward Cofrancesco and her four sisters, Mary Santilli, Rosetta Perazella, Margaret Puhatcha and Blanche Fitzpatrick. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:15 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 12 pm at St. Joseph Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm. Albert M. Landry, 81, husband of Jeannette Verville Landry, died on January 9, 2016 at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Arundel, Maine on May 8, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Irene Gilbert Landry. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford, Maine and was a Meriden resident since 1956. Mr. Landry was employed by Pratt and Whitney retiring in 1999. After his retirement he worked at the Arc of Meriden and Wallingford. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. His hobbies included woodworking, hunting, cribbage, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Albert was also an avid Red Sox and UConn women’s basketball fan. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Diane and Michael Duhamel, Jane and Kenneth Hollman, Cathy and Gary Poulin and Debra and Greg Agro; his son, Robert and Deborah Platt Landry; 12 grandchildren, Gary Duhamel, Kurt Duhamel, Kevin Duhamel, Robin Duhamel Jaworski, Jennifer Landry Brislin, Kyle Landry, Stephanie Hollman Evans, Allissa Hollman, Danielle Poulin, Andrew Poulin, Brett Agro and Brooke Agro; seven great-grandchildren, Jada, Jamien, Cole, Gemma, Carter, Landon and Sawyer; his two sisters, Constance and Roger Collard and Joan and Conrad Moisan; his brother Raymond and Lorraine Landry and his special friend, Michelle McCully. Albert is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Michael Albert Landry. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday January 14th at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Cathy Marie Frank, 63, wife of Robert F. Frank, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan on May 26, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Joyce and Aury Cronkite. She had resided in Meriden since 1980. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Jamie Hoffman; three sons, Johnny Craig, Ricky Graham Jr. and Henry Graham, one step-daughter, Tina Gunther; one step-son, Dennis Frank; several grandchildren; one sister, Laurie Enea and her husband Sal; one brother, Stephen Cronkite and several nieces and nephews. Clara J. Bartholomew, 69, wife of Richard Bartholomew, died on January 8, 2016 at Cape Coral Hospital in Florida after an extended illness. Born in Meriden on October 23, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva Kelly. She resided in Meriden for over forty years before moving to Florida in 2013. Mrs. Bartholomew was employed by the City of Meriden Senior Citizens Center, retiring in 2007. Besides her husband Richard, she is survived by two sons, Richard Bartholomew Jr. and his wife Barbara of Milford, CT and Todd Bartholomew and his wife Debbie of Foley, AL; six grandchildren, Morgan and Brandon Bartholomew of Milford, CT, Sam and Tyler Fitzpatrick of England, Amber Castleberry of Ft. Stewart, GA and Tori Bartholomew of Foley, AL; three great-grandchildren, Cadence and Aaron Castleberry and Freddy Fitzpatrick; one sister, Barbara Riccio of Hubbard, OH; three brothers, Joe Kelly and his wife Marion of Meriden, George Kelly and his wife Martha of Pinellas Park, FL, Fred Kelly and his wife Debbie of Benson, NC; three sisters-in-law, Betty Kelly of Wallingford, Joan Munger of Wallingford and Grace Keef of Harrison, Maine and special friend, Audrey Kurowsky. Frank W. Clark, 96, husband of the late Anne (Pullen) Clark, died on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Meriden Center. Born in Enfield on July 25, 1919, he was the son of the late Timothy and Mary (Kane) Clark. Mr. Clark resided in Meriden since 1955. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and McAllister Mortuary College. He was employed by Frank M. Riley Funeral Home, Greenwich, CT, John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home and Flatow Funeral Home. Frank was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army. Mr. Clark was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. He is survived by three daughters, Diane (Ronald) Anton, Margaret Zinser and Maribeth (Dave) Peruta; one son, Tom (Rosemary) Clark; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several sisters and brothers. The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11 am at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT. Barbara V. Pascucci, 85, wife of the late Peter R. Pascucci, Jr., died Sunday, January 17, 2016 in MidState Medical Center. Born in Meriden on September 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Adeline Nalewajek Victor. She was a lifetime Meriden resident. Mrs. Pascucci was employed by the former Kings Dept. Store and by Macy’s in Meriden. She was a member of Three Angels 7th Day Adventist Church and was a very sweet hearted woman, she loved her late husband, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hill and her husband Gerard and Nancy Norke and her husband Roger, one son Victor Pascucci and his wife Valerie, nine grandchildren, Peter and Megan Norke, Nick and Jill Hill, David Hill and Katie Freaney, Anthony and Karlee Pascucci, Michael and Heather Pascucci, Sarah and Rob Sienko, Kevin Greaves, Sarah Greaves and Jamie and Todd Shoneck, 6.5 great grandchildren, Hadley, Everett, Alexis, Emily, Brianna and Hunter. She is also survived by her sister Adeline, a very special niece Crystal and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Ronald Victor and by a niece Judy Malero. Russell E. Dupuis, 69, of Meriden, husband of the late Mary K. DeStefano Dupuis, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 17, 2015. Born in Meriden, CT on October 1, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert and Lorraine (Greene) Dupuis. He was a long time member of the CT Carpenter’s Union, Local 24, before his retirement. He also served in the US Navy. Russ will be forever loved and missed. Russ is survived by a daughter, Christina Dupuis-Fearney; a son, Todd Dupuis and his wife Sheri; three grandchildren, Maranda Dupuis-Fearney, Sean Dupuis and Brandon Cooper all of Meriden; a sister, Patricia Levesque; a brother, Robert Dupuis Jr., both of Wallingford. Semone V. Curry, 91, wife of the late John J. Curry, Jr., died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Regency House in Wallingford. Born in Meriden on December 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Octavio and Frances Valenti. She had resided in Meriden for most of her life and attended St. Laurent School. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. Semone was an avid gardener and loved the NY Yankees, UCONN Men and Women Basketball Teams. She is survived by a daughter, Joanne Curry of Meriden, two sons, John Curry III of Meriden and Kevin Curry and his wife Liza of Feeding Hills, MA and three grandsons, Jeffrey and Michael Gifford of Meriden and Patrick Curry of Feeding Hills, MA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including her favorite nephew David Cooper of Wallingford. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Lois Spears, her closest friend, Jan Catrole and her beloved cat, Snippy. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ida Brunell, Sylvia Cooper and Ivette Valenti, a brother Otto Valenti, first cousin Frank Peracchio and her beloved niece Kathleen Cooper Savage. Judson R. Yager, died peacefully at Apple Rehab – Coccomo, on February 2, 2016 in Meriden, CT at the age of 81. Judson was predeceased by wives, Mary (Peters) Yager and Clare (Dunn) Yager. He is survived by son, David Yager Sr. and wife Donna (Lewoc) Yager of Cheshire, CT, his daughter Lynn (Yager) Daly and her husband Douglas Daly of Meriden, CT. He is also survived by two grandsons, David Yager Jr. and Jared Yager. Mr. Yager was born in Bristol, CT to Robert Yager and Alice (Granger) Yager. He worked for CL&P/Yankee Gas until retirement, served in the U.S. Navy and was a longtime member of the Meriden Elks, Lodge 35. Muriel (Weinberg) Berson, 89, of Berlin, CT (formerly of Meriden) passed away peacefully at Salmon Brook Center in Glastonbury surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 4, 2016 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Muriel was born March 20, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, to Maurice and Anna (Shefkowitz) Weinberg, and later moved to New Haven, CT. After marrying Seymour (“Sy”) Berson, the love of her life, they settled in Meriden and raised two daughters, Avis and Gail. Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, and her eldest daughter, Avis (Berson) Schreier. As the matriarch of a close and loving family, Muriel is survived by her daughter, Gail Havelick, and her husband, Jack, of Wakefield, MA; son-in-law, Frank Schreier of Portland, CT; and grandchildren, Brian Schreier and his wife Nicole of Hebron, CT, Andrea Schreier and her wife Elise of Newington, CT, and David Havelick of Boston, MA. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Ramon, Mariah, Mikayla, and Charlotte, whom she loved with all of her heart. Muriel will be dearly missed by a niece, a nephew, and their families, along with several cousins, other family members and friends from throughout her life. Muriel was a graduate of Commercial High School in New Haven, CT, and later worked for 17 years at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. She and her husband, Seymour were devoted congregants of Temple B’nai Abraham in Meriden, and were very active in the temple community. Throughout her life, Muriel was an inspiration to her family and friends because of her strength, optimism and generosity. Known as Bubby to her loved ones, she loved spending time on the Jewish holidays and other special occasions with her family, where she cooked large kosher meals highlighted by her famous applesauce and matzoh ball soup. In more recent years, after Seymour’s passing, Muriel continued to make new friends, who were drawn to her by her strength of spirit and positive attitude. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 11 am at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT, 06450, with Rabbi Michael G. Kohn officiating. Barbara J. (Schulz) Sperl, 87, wife of the late Donald E. Sperl, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Silver Creek on Main in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Born in Meriden on June 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Hazel (Norrie) Schulz. She was a Middlefield resident for many years. Mrs. Sperl graduated from Meriden High School, class of 1946 and attended Teacher’s College of CT in New Britain. She was a member of Marjorie Bruce Daughters of Scotia; Lodge No. 7 in Meriden, where she served two terms as Chief Daughter. Barbara worked as a secretary for the Investment Officer at Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford for several years. She was the administrator of Mrs. Sperl’s Pre-Kindergarten Class in Meriden for 16 years, serving children on the East side of Meriden. She retired from Gaylord Hospital as a Purchasing Secretary after seventeen years of service. She is survived by three sons, Peter M. Sperl and his wife Donna of Middlefield, Paul N. Sperl and his wife Sheri of Maple Grove, MN., and Mark D. Sperl and his wife Julie of Durham, seven grandchildren, Erik, Andrea, Scott, Matthew, Aaron, Nathan and Alyssa Sperl. She is also survived by her twin sister Mrs. Phyllis Watson of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Joan F. Broad, 73, wife of the late Ross Broad passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden on May 28, 1942, the daughter of the late John and Frances Earley. She resided in Meriden for most of her life and attended Meriden Public Schools. Joan was employed by The Hartford Insurance Co. prior to her retirement. She was previously employed by The International Silver Co. and The Napier Co. Family was most important to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. She is survived by her daughter, Heather MacDonald and her husband Mark of Southington; three grandchildren, Aaron MacDonald and his wife Olivia, Noah MacDonald and Zachary MacDonald; two great-granddaughters, Lily and Rosie and one sister, Barbara Phillippou and her husband Andréas. Norman D. Topa, 76, husband of Mary Lou (Totzke) Topa, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Keene, N.H. on March 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph and Hilda (Ketcham) Topa. Norman worked at International Silver, Timex Corporation, and later as a realtor. Raymond Joseph Cichon, Jr., 64, died on Saturday February 13, 2016 at the West Haven VA Hospital after a long illness. Born in Meriden on November 14, 1951, he was the son of Clementine (Wisniewski) Cichon and the late Raymond J. Cichon Sr. Raymond was a lifelong Meriden resident. He was employed by the Meriden School System working at Maloney High School. Mr. Cichon was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U.S. Army. Besides his loving mother, he is survived by his two sisters, Teresa Valerie and her husband Mike of Meriden and Patricia Lavigne and her fiancé Eric Caulfield of Wethersfield; one niece, Jolyn Harss and three nephews, Mike Valerie, Jeffrey Valerie and Tim Lavigne. William Nawrocki, 80, husband of the late Ruth Stronach Nawrocki, died on Thursday, February 18, 2016 unexpectedly at home. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts on March 15, 1935, he was the son of the late William and Sophie Zalenski Nawrocki. He had resided in Meriden for 50 plus years and most recently was a resident of the CT Baptist Home. Mr. Nawrocki was employed as a pharmaceutical sales representative for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. William was an avid golfer, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Wallingford Country Club and the Meriden Jaycees. He is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Christian Camuti of Meriden and three grandchildren, Ashley Rowe, Abbey Rowe and Adam Rowe. Josephine Premo, 83, wife of Charles E. Premo passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Midstate Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born in Meriden on March 20, 1932 to the late Margaret and Joseph Dziodzio. She had resided in Meriden until moving to Colchester 27 years ago. Mrs. Premo was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and attended St. Stanislaus School, Meriden High School and Laurel Business School. She was employed by W.T. Grants, Times Wire and Cable and Catholic Family Services. Jo enjoyed traveling the New England coast; Maine being her favorite destination for lobster stew. She also was an avid fan of the Uconn Women’s Basketball Team. Josephine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles E. Premo, her son Keith Premo and his wife Laura, of Tomball, Texas, her daughter, Deborah Gawel and her husband Robert. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Keith Premo II (Haley) of Georgia, Lexi Patterson (Alonzo) of Texas, Matthew Gawel of Maine and Becky Gawel and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Greta Premo. The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 25th at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 and at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Meriden. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 24th from 5 to 7 p.m.

Joseph J. Assenza, died peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Meriden, CT. He was 94 years old. Joseph was born on April 1, 1921 in Bridgeport, CT., son of the late Gaetano and Margherita Assenza. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Josephine (Salemi) Assenza. He is also survived by his daughter, Margaret Trella of Meriden, CT., two grandchildren, Maria Drauss, wife of James Drauss and Michael Trella. He was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Assenza of Grand Island, NY. and John Assenza of Meriden, CT and a sister Marietta Bruenn and a son-in-law, Gary Trella. Joseph was retired from International Silver Co. after 44 years of service. He also was employed for 23 years at Peerless Company of Cheshire. He served four years in World War II in the European theater and was a driver of a tank in the 8th Armored Tank Division. Joseph had many interests. He enjoyed landscaping his home and took great pride in his vegetable garden. He enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds that came to the feeders in his yard. His special pet was a squirrel that came to his den window each day. He would feed this squirrel each day. Joseph enjoyed sports. He planned his day around the schedule of the UCONN basketball games. He enjoyed both the girls’ and boys’ teams. He was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Meriden on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:00 am. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Thursday, February 25th, from 4 to 7 pm. If desired please make memorial donations to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, 115 Lewis Ave, Meriden, CT 06451. Michele (Missy) DeVito-Kerr, 51, loving wife of George (Hal) Kerr passed away after a prolonged illness on Friday, February 19, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Haven on August 14, 1964, the daughter of the late Marie and Michael DeVito. She resided in North Haven for most of her life before moving to Meriden 10 years ago. Missy graduated from North Haven High School in 1982. She had a great love of all animals. In addition to the love she bestowed on her pets she spent much of her time caring for her family and friends. Besides her beloved husband, she is survived by her sister, Donna DeVito, her step-mother, Sandy DeVito and her uncle Freddy Marenna. The funeral services and burial will be private. Joyce Mason, 72, beloved wife of Bishop Ozzie Mason, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Masonicare of Wallingford surrounded by her family. Born in Bartow, GA on March 25, 1943 to the late Jake and Mattie Lou Palmer. Joyce attended High School at Jefferson County School in Louisville, GA and obtained her Bachelors, Masters and Doctorettes degree in Christian Education with the New Life Theological Seminary. Mrs. Mason was a Meriden resident and a dedicated homemaker. She was the First Lady of The Victorious House of Prayer Church. Besides her beloved husband, Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Betsiline Crockett and her husband Donald and Cynthia Mason; her two sons, Cain Mason and his wife Erin and Abel Mason and his wife Jari; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Kyree and Gabriel; her sister Maggie Palmer; her three brothers, Tommy James, Willie Albert and Eddie Palmer. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the Victorious House of Prayer Church, 74 Cambridge St., Meriden, CT 06450. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
