Jane Dahn
Jane B. Dahn, 87 of Meriden, wife of the late Robert E. Dahn, departed this life on Thanksgiving morning at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Meriden on April 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Rose Klenske. Mrs. Dahn was a graduate of Meriden High School and attended both the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital School of Nursing and Central Connecticut State College. She was employed as a Dental Assistant and also as a Proof Reader for the Morning Record Newspaper. She truly enjoyed working as a proof reader because, in her words, “I got to read the news before the paper was printed.” Her greatest joy however was raising her four children. Her kindness, generosity, and compassion are her legacy. Throughout her life she never raised her voice in anger and was nice to everyone she met. Jane was an experienced and dedicated gardener who took immense pride in her yard. She loved being outside and would spend most of her day working in the flower gardens. She enjoyed decorating her house, especially for the holidays, with flowers and accents grown in her own yard and took great pleasure from selecting, cutting, and decorating a locally grown Christmas tree each year. She loved the shoreline and spent many summers on the beaches of Madison and Cape Cod while reading her books. Even very recently Jane enjoyed riding down to the coast and simply looking out over the waters of Long Island Sound. Notwithstanding her quiet, polite, and kind demeanor, in her younger years Jane was quite the adventurer. With her late husband she climbed Mt. Washington several times and also competed with him in flying and navigation contests as part of the UCONN Flying Club. Her husband would pilot the small airplane toward a target near the runway while she gave him directions. As they approached she would open the door of the airplane, loosen her seatbelt, and lean outside of the plane to drop a flour sack onto the target below. Jane would often go up flying in planes or sailing on boats not so much because she loved the activities themselves, but because she deeply loved her husband and children and would do anything for and with them. Jane loved animals and had several pets throughout her life, and she enjoyed feeding the birds and watching other wild animals that came into her yard. Jane is survived by her four children and their spouses; Robert and Lisa Dahn of Mansfield, William and Joanne Dahn of Meriden, Peter and Diane Dahn of Plantsville, and her daughter Karen Dahn of Meriden who was her constant companion and best friend. She is also survived by grandchildren Meghan Dahn and her fiancé Matthew Salyer of New York City, Patrick Dahn of London England, Melissa and Nick Sahadi of Newington, Nicholas Dahn of Meriden, Nora and Dave McGrath of Newtown, Robby and Presley Dahn of Plantsville, and her great-grandson Ike of Newtown.
