Dorothy (Fleming) Daly, 91, of Meriden, wife of the late Jeremiah Daly, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Dorothy was born on September 24, 1923 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Fleming and Margaret (Cody) Fleming. She was a long time Eastside Meriden resident and parishioner of St Rose Church. Mrs. Daly graduated from Commercial High in New Haven and Southern Connecticut State College with a BA in Library Science. Dorothy retired from Meriden Public Library after many years of service as a Reference Librarian, a profession that she truly enjoyed. She enjoyed many happy summers at the family cottage in Westbrook and always maintained her love of the Westbrook area. Also, Mrs. Daly pursued varied interests of genealogy, painting, post card collecting, walking groups, and active membership in the Meriden Historical Society. Dorothy cherished her friends new and old and enjoyed their frequent reunions. To her family, Dorothy’s special qualities were the inspiration and perspective that she gave. Her encouragement was always there to help us as we faced the ups and downs of life. She was so proud of her marriage to “Jerry” the love of her life, and it served as a true inspiration of commitment and love to everyone that knew them. She is survived by a daughter, Rose Devlin and her husband Michael of Meriden, three sons Brian Daly and his wife Linda of Venice FL, Thomas Daly of Meriden, and Joseph Daly and his wife Kelly of West Simsbury, CT. Also, she leaves six grandchildren, Melissa, Elizabeth, Daniel, Sean, Matthew and Andrew, and one great grandchild. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff of the Connecticut Baptist Home, Cedar Ridge for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Dorothy and her family during this difficult time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center Street, Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, prior to the Mass from 9 am to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller St. Meriden, CT 06450 or The Meriden Historical Society, PO Box 3005, Meriden, CT 06450.
