Fernand Tremblay

Fernand A. Tremblay Sr, 91, husband of the late Jean Kaftanowicz Tremblay, died on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Born in Woonsocket, R.I. on November 30, 1923, he was the son of the late Adjutor and Aurea (Harnois) Tremblay and had resided in Meriden for eighty-nine years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He attained the rank of Sergeant and earned a Silver Star during his service. Fern, or Fred as he was known by some co-workers, was employed for many years at International Silver Company and World Tableware, retiring as Shipping Manager. He was a longtime parishioner and usher at St. Laurent Church. He is survived by four children, Allan Tremblay Sr and his wife Frances of Meriden, Ronald Tremblay and his wife Anne of Swansboro, NC, Fernand Tremblay Jr and his wife Priscilla of East Haddam and Cheryl Tremblay Mahar and her husband Keith of Poultney, VT. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and another one on the way and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Rita Tremblay McEvoy and Anita Tremblay Panella and two grandchildren, Ray M. Tremblay and Erin M. Tremblay. The funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at 9:45 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, and at 10:30 am at St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St., Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Dec. 21st from 4 to 7 pm.
