Rose M. (Sartini) Scappaticci, beloved wife of the late Vincent J. Scappaticci, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Waters Edge in Middletown after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rose and Vin were married for 65 years prior to his passing in 2012. Rose was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1937. She worked at Kiss Lamp, Cuno, and lnternational Silver where she met Vin. While raising their family, Rose began her employment at Star’s Dept. Store (Nu-Star’s) working there until her retirement years. Rose enjoyed gardening, making snowmen and snow angels, and exercising-all of which she did into her 80′s! She was often spotted walking all around Meriden and nearby towns with Olga, Madelyn, and Violet. Rose also enjoyed repeated trips to Ogunquit, Maine; Cape Cod; and Vermont-where she snowshoed at age 80. Rose was a lifelong parishioner of Mount Carmel Church and an active member of the Mt. Carmel Society. Rose was gentle and soft spoken, yet also stoic with a spiritual strength about her. She survived open heart surgery to repair a hole in her heart in 1977 and thyroid cancer when she was in her 70′s. Rose cherished her family. She leaves her 3 children: son, Paul (Jackie) Scappaticci of Manchester; daughters, Carol (Dan) Busa of Meriden; Nancy (Robert) Scappaticci-Galonski of Meriden; her 4 grandchildren: Nichole (Adam) Easley, Jason Scappaticci, and Lauren Scappaticci all of Manchester, and Todd (Donna) Busa of Meriden, and l great-granddaughter, Dara Joan Busa of Meriden. Rose is also survived by two sisters, Helena Sartucci and Olga Lamb both of Meriden, and sister-in-law Maura Gregory of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Caroline Fantozzi, and brothers, Silvio Sartini and Louis Sartini. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 9:15 from the John J. Ferry & Sons, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
