Nathaniel L. Simms, 79, of Cheshire, husband of Joyce Perry Simms, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Born in Johnstown, PA on December 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Lane) Simms. He had resided in Palos Verdes, CA for most of his life. He received a BA from Central State University of Ohio and a Master’s Degree from University of CT. Mr. Simms met his wife Joyce at Central State University and were married for 54 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Air Force. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for his service in the U.S. Air Force. Besides his wife Joyce, he is survived by his godson Christopher Lehman and his goddaughter Lela Bohannon, both of Los Angeles, CA, a sister Rachel Simms and a brother Thomas Simms, both of Johnstown, PA, a special sister-in-law, Joann Raye of Hamden, a special brother-in-law, Lawrence Raye of Hamden, a special niece Sylvia Allen of Charlotte, NC, a special nephew, Dr. Gregory Miller of Bethesda, MD and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with Military Honors on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11 a.m at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Section 27 South. There will be no calling hours.
