Verdia (Newty) A. Mitchell of Meriden, wife of John T. Mitchell, died on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Masonic Healthcare. Born in Meriden on April 18, 1955, she was the daughter of Cecil Ray and Mable Riddle. She had resided in Meriden her entire life and had graduated from Francis T. Maloney High School. Mrs. Mitchell was employed by Meriden Dental Group, retiring in August, 2011. She was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Besides her husband John, she is survived by two sons, John Pop Mitchell and his wife Jessica and Justin Mitchell, all of Meriden; seven grandchildren, Terrell, Olivia, Jasmin, Raya, Jaxon, Stylz and Tiana, all of Meriden; four sisters, Ada, Debbie, Cynthia and Barbara and six brothers, Michael, Jody, Curtis, Clarence, Greggory and Jerome. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, special friends Melissa and Adreanne, all of her brothers and sisters at Kingdom Hall and her coworkers at Meriden Dental Group. She was predeceased by her mother Mable, her father, Cecil and her brother John Ray.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11 am at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1480 North Colony Street, Meriden, CT with Larry Shaw officiating. Burial will be private. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1480 North Colony Street, Meriden, CT 06450.
