John (Jay) Solek, 69, passed on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Midstate Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Meriden on Dec. 12, 1943, the son of the late John and Mary (Kostechki) Solek.
John resided in California for most of his life before moving back to Meriden 22 years ago to care for his parents. He graduated from Maloney High. Jay enjoyed antique cars and working around his home.
John is survived by a sister, Marcia De Rosa and her husband Edward (Ned) of Meriden; a nephew, Edward De Rosa and his wife Susan of Meriden; two nieces, Sharon D’Aquila and her husband Ronald of Middlefield and Susan Cossette and her husband Jeffry. And also many great nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Friday, Dec. 6 at 12 noon at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 10 to 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854-2328
