Mary Petrucelli
Mary D. (Astramowicz) Petrucelli, 94, wife of the late Mario D. Petrucelli, died on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Middlesex Hospital, Hospice Unit after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on December 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica (Kubeck) Astramowicz. She was a longtime Meriden resident, moving to Durham in 2001. She graduated from Meriden High School, Class of 1939. Mrs. Petrucelli was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Notre Dame Church in Durham. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella, Golden Circle and the Durham Senior Center. Family was always most important to her. Mary was a very loving, warm mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all. She is survived by three daughters, Loretta Victor, of Meriden, Noreen Baris and her husband John of Durham and Sharon Myjak and her husband Peter of Sherman; eight grandchildren, Ronald S. Victor, Stephen P. Victor, Maryellen Koza, Laney Baris-Turano, Carrie Baris-Conte, Sara Myjak-Gonzalez, Dana P. Myjak and Michael R. Myjak; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son-in-law Ronald B. Victor, five brothers, Benjamin, Edward, Louis, Stanley and Theodore Astramowicz and four sisters, Anne Parent, Stasia Astramowicz, Helen Weathers and Hattie Pancallo. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:15 from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11 am at St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm. The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated caregivers, especially Kionna Bond and the Hospice team at Middlesex Hospital.
Peter Catalano
Peter John Catalano, 72, husband of Susan Burnham Catalano, died on January 6, 2015 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Britain on October 31, 1942, he was the son of Attilio and Sue (Avalone) Catalano. He had resided in Southington, Berlin, Newington and Meriden and had graduated Berlin High School. Peter was employed by Northeast Utilities, retiring after thirty-seven years of service in the real estate department. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964 to 1969. He was a member of New Life Bible Church in Hamden. Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, especially baseball. Peter enjoyed vacationing in Maine with his wife, Susan. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Andra Brysgel and her husband Eric and Jennifer Rojas and her husband José; two sons, Peter Catalano and his wife Rhoda and Matthew Catalano and his wife Jennifer; eight grandchildren, Erika Litevitch and her husband John, Drew Catalano, Ali Brysgel, Ryan, Zach and Grace Catalano and Ava and Caiden Rojas; one great-grandchild, Jadon Litevitch; two sisters, Susan Berardi and her husband Frank, and Shirley Pendleton and her husband Robert and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very caring uncle, Robert Catalano of Franklin, MA, a great friend and brother-in-law, Douglas Burnham and his wife, Bette and a sister-in-law, Mary-Ellen Rosenberry. A private funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Andrew (Drew) Laude, 28, beloved son of Gary and Lisa (Muenchow) Laude, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after a brief illness. Born on November 3, 1986, he was a lifelong Meriden resident and had graduated from Platt High School, Class of 2005 and attended Tunxis Community College in Farmington where he was on the Dean’s list. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Drew loved music and was a prolific drummer. Drew was an avid sports fan, who loved the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed walks with his special uncle, Bob Muenchow. Drew had a keen interest in social and political issues. Besides his parents, Gary and Lisa, he is survived by one brother, Jeffrey Laude of Hamden; aunts and uncles, Wayne A. Laude and his partner Fran of Cromwell, Jeffrey and Stephanie Laude of Meriden, Cynthia Muenchow-Lavariere and her son Ritchie Lavariere of Newington, Ronald and Linda Muenchow of Poway, CA, Carol and Paul Rebot of Middletown, Gail and Gil Masler of Meriden, a special uncle Bob Muenchow, Raymond Muenchow and his daughter Wendy. He is also survived by many cousins. He was predeceased by his best friend, Jon Marocchini and his favorite cat Felix. Dorisann B. Curry, 76, wife of the late David Curry, formerly of Meriden passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Curry graduated from Meriden High School. She was employed by UBS Realty of Hartford. Dorisann was an avid Boston Celtics and Uconn Women’s Basketball fan. She is survived by a daughter, Cathleen Long and her children, Devon and Jaden of Windsor; a son, Brian Curry and his children, Jessica and Sean of Florida and two great-grandchildren. William Iwanski
William R. Iwanski, 71, husband of Donna (Murphy) Iwanski, died on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the V.A. Hospital in West Haven after a long illness. Born in New Kensington, PA on August 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Holowitz) Iwanski. He was the owner of Durham Masonry Company and was well known in town as “Bill the mason”. Mr. Iwanski served with pride and honor in the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Besides his wife of forty-nine years, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Witecki and her husband Bill of Durham; a son, Michael Iwanski of Durham; three grandchildren, Daniel Iwanski of Georgia, Will Witecki and Nate Witecki of Durham; a brother, Stanley Iwanski of Vermont;a special aunt, Mary Murphy of Meriden; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Glorioso and her husband Joe; a brother-in-law, Terry Murphy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Alan Murphy. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to a veteran organization of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the doctor’s, nurses and staff at the West Haven and Newington V.A. hospitals. All services will be private.

Mary Teresa (Giaccherini) Kofsuske, 90, wife of the late Ernest V. Kofsuske, died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. She was born on July 17, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Olinto and Angeline (Pallini) Giaccherini. Mary graduated from Meriden High and was employed by the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital Auxiliary as the coffee shop manager. She then worked at Graeber’s Pharmacy until her retirement in 1993. Mary was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and took great pride in her family. She was an amazing cook who made sure you left her house beyond full. Mary loved the Yankees, visiting the casino, pups Bruno and Vito, and being a Nonna. Mary is survived by a son, Thomas, from Meriden, and a daughter-in-law Anna (Fazzio) Kofsuske, from Meriden. Her grandchildren; Peter Kofsuske and his fiance, Jaime Perry, of East Haven; Kevin Kofsuske and his wife, Jennifer, of Middletown; and Kristen Natlo and her husband, Rick, of Middletown. She is also survived by her great granddaughter, Riley, and her mother Tara Kofsuske. She has three great grandsons; Drew, Jacob, and Kameron Kofsuske. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews; including her special niece, Mary “Jackie” (Giaccherini) Hackbarth and her husband, Richard, who kept up with Mary’s signature wit. Mary shared many holidays and memories with the Fazzio family and had a special bond with Geraldine Fazzio. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Ernest; a sister, Edith; brothers, Nello and Alfred; and her beloved daughter, Marianne. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

James Moran
James I. Moran Sr., 82, of Meriden, husband of the late Betty Mae Moran, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden on August 5, 1932, the son of the late James P. Moran and Esther Ives Moran, he had resided in Meriden for his entire life. He was a graduate of Meriden High School and was employed by Connecticut Telephone and Electric in Meriden, and later founded Moran’s TV and Appliance until his retirement over twenty years ago. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the US Army. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Ellis of Mansfield Center; two sons, James Moran Jr. of Meriden and Garry Moran and his wife Dawn of Meriden; six grandchildren, James Moran III and his wife Melissa, Jennifer Maring and her husband Charles, Jessica Moran, Billy Moran, Bobby Moran and Richard Maslar Jr.; two great-grandchildren, James Moran IV and Caleigh Moran; three sisters, Joan Kocsis and her husband Victor of Newnan, GA, Margaret Knop of Franklin, NC and Donna Yale of Meriden; a brother. Harvey Moran and his wife MaryAnn of Clinton, CT and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Gabriella Maslar. Ana L. Velazquez, 74, wife of the late Antero Gonzalez, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Westfield Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on February 27, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Ana (Carrasquillo) Velazquez. Mrs. Velazquez is survived by seven daughters; Elsa I. Gonzalez, Carmen Gonzalez, Ana Gonzalez, Norma Gonzalez, Maritza Gonzalez, Cecilia Gonzalez, and Elba Gonzalez, three sons; Jose A. Gonzalez, Victor Gonzalez and Juan Gonzalez, all of Meriden, and twenty four grandchildren and thirty seven great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
