Donna Sibley, 91, wife of the late Joseph Sibley, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Jerome Home in New Britain. Born in West Enfield, Maine, the daughter of Clinton and Leona (Clark) Robinson, she graduated from Howland High School in Howland, Maine. Mrs. Sibley was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company and Aero-Gasket Corporation. She also worked for the Rationing Board in Howland, Maine during World War II. She loved to cook and was known for her biscuits and chocolate cake. She is survived by one daughter, Beth (Michael) Fraychak of Plainville; one son Alan (Karen) Sibley of Colchester; two grandchildren, Jamie Fraychak of Columbia, South Carolina and Justin Fraychak of Farmington, CT; one great-grandchild, Brooke Fraychak; two brothers, Alan Robinson of Boston, Massachusetts and Gary (Jean) Robinson of Milo, Maine and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Gerald, Claydene and John Robinson. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450 at 11 am with Reverend Claire Bamberg of Congregational Church in Plainville officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 to 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Jerome Home or Gardens at Arbor Rose, both located at 975 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT 06052. Robert Francis Coffey, 87, husband of June (LaMontagne) Coffey, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home of 63 years, surrounded by his family. Bob was born on May 9, 1927, and was the son of the late Francis Coffey and Marie (Klenske) Coffey. Bob was a lifelong resident of Meriden, and is a graduate of the Meriden Public Schools. Bob retired from the Connecticut State Police as a Sergeant after 27 years of dedicated service. He was a Navy World War II veteran and fought in the Battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church, where he married his bride of 65 years. In the 1940s, ‘Irish Bob Coffey’ was a semi-pro boxer who amassed a record of forty-four wins and only two losses. He was also a proud member of the Sons of Italy Football Team, the Acorn Gang, and the Antique Veterans. Bob was extremely proud of his family, and shared stories about their accomplishments with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife June, and children Patricia Bremer of Middletown, Colleen Kerelejza of South Meriden, Deborah Berger of Granby, Mary Hennessey of Bolton, Daniel Coffey of Berlin, Barbara Ladas of Berlin, and Christine Capodice of Berlin. He cherished his 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, especially Irene Jiminez, for their loving care during his last days. Donations may be made to Holy Angels Church, 585 Main St., Meriden, CT 06451. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9:15 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10:00 am at Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday June 9th from 4 to 8pm.

Jacob “Jake” G. Haigis, 76, husband of Ann Marie Reola Haigis, died on Friday, June 6, 2014. Born in Meriden on January 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Jacob and Alma (Nobert) Haigis. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Mr. Haigis was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company for over 20 years. He was an Army Veteran and attended St. Laurent Church. Mr. Haigis volunteered with the Fidelco Guide Dogs Foundation. Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by one daughter, Maria Lynn Remy of Florida, two grandchildren, Cody and Alexandra Remy, one step-grandson, Damon Remy and one sister Virginia Haigis-Pucillo and her husband James of Meriden. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday June 10, 2014 at 12 noon at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain. Family and friends may call prior to the service at the funeral home from 10 to 12 noon. Leonard W. Gintoff, 93, husband of the late Arlene (Carroll) Gintoff, died on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor in New Britain after a brief illness. Born in Claremont, New Hampshire on February 14, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Alexandria Gintoff. He had resided in Meriden since 1947. He attended Claremont schools and after the war, was employed by International Silver Company for over thirty-five years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Navy in the European and Pacific Theatres of Operation. He was an avid bowler, scrabble player, golfer and fisherman. He is survived by one daughter, Joan Robinson and her husband Gary of Springfield, New Hampshire; two sons, John Gintoff and his wife Francine of East Hampton and Jerry Gintoff and his wife Kathleen of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Anastasia, Suzann, Alexander, Natasha, Allison, Sophia and Vladimir; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Olive and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 9:15 from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 am at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with military honors will be in SS Peter &Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm. MERIDEN Johanna Grenier, born on December 19, 1920, died on Sunday, June 8, 2014. Born in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Rose Ferro. She had resided in Meriden for most of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Johanna was a very special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a single parent who was hardworking and generous. The way she lived her life left a legacy for her family to carry on. She will be remembered by all who loved her. She is survived by her children Nancy Grenier and the late Walt Martancik of Rockfall, Richard and Veronica Grenier of Meriden, Joan Kafka and Jim St. Amand of Wallingford; grandchildren Tina and Eric Finnelli of Rockfall, Tara and Mike Ruggerio of Columbus, New Jersey, Elizabeth Grenier and Erik Merliss of Wallingford and Rachel Grenier and Mike Theriault of Meriden; great-grandchildren, Frankie and Ayden Finelli, Tommy and Sophia Spinner and Erik Merliss. She was predeceased by four sisters, Agnes Thompson, Angie Ross, Josie Barber and Mary Glorioso and two brothers, Dominic Ferro and Phillip Ferro. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 10:15 at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450 and at 11 am at St. Colman Church in Middlefield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery. Florence K. Baigert, 92, wife of the late John A. Baigert, died on June 12, 2014. Born in Yantic on November 1, 1921, had attended Norwich Free Academy. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Karniewicz and had resided in Meriden. Mrs. Baigert was employed by International Silver Company, Johnny’s Drive-In, H.J. Cuno Company and the Meriden Board of Ed/ Maloney High School Cafeteria. She retired in 1991. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and was a former member of the Falcons Club, the Sunshine Club and the Senior Citizen Center. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Baigert and Maureen Maniscalco and her husband Frank Jr.; one son, Richard Baigert and his wife Laurie; seven grandchildren, Stephen Russo, Michelle Traverso, Charles J. Ballard, Jennifer Lindsay, Matthew Maniscalco, Justin Baigert and Valerie Baigert; two step-grandchildren, Frank Maniscalco III and Amanda Maniscalo; eight great-grandchildren, Nyah Traverso, Ethan and Zander Ballard, Vanessa and Kamryn Rios, Alyssa and Emma Russo and Calvin Baigert; sister-in-law, Janice Gaj and brother-in-law, Stanley Gaj. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Kosienski, a brother, Alfred Karniewicz, Sr and a grandson, Lee Baigert. Adele M. Alix, 98, formerly of Meriden, wife of the late Leo F. Alix, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at home with her family by her side. Born in Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Rose (Boilard) Crepeau. Mrs. Alix was employed by the State of CT., Division of Special Revenue. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Columbian Ladies and St. Anne Society. She is survived by three daughters; Elaine Farrell and her husband Michael of Mt.Vernon, NY, Suzanne Alix of Newington and Denise Alix of Willington, two sons; Edward Alix of Cleveland, OH and Peter Alix and his wife Jennifer of Stafford Springs, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by three half-sisters and three half-brothers all of Canada and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son James Alix, two sisters Anastasia Moisan and Sister Therese Boilard and two brothers Theodore and Paul Boilard. David R. Stevens, 72, son of the late Florence and Evarts C. Stevens Jr., passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his daughter Kimberly Stevens Fazzina. David is survived by his wife, Sandy Stevens, his daughter Debbie Stevens Troiano and her husband Jason, his son-in-law, John P. Fazzina and his wife Tara, his brother, John V. Stevens and his wife Anne and his sister, Anne Bailey. David also leaves behind his grandchildren, Stephen D. Fazzina, Rebecca E. Fazzina and Brody J. Troiano, all of whom he cherished. He will be remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be private. In honor of David’s love for animals, if one chooses, please consider making a donation to the ASPCA or to your personal charity of choice. Born on July 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Stephanie Sawicki, and had resided in Meriden for all of her life. Mrs. Tomczuk was employed by the Curtis Home as a nurses aide for many years before retiring. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and Holy Angels Church. She is survived by one daughter, Claudia LaPalme and her husband Raymond of Prospect; one son, Mark Tomczuk and his wife Ivy of Norwich; four grandchildren, Karen Joyal, William Sima III, Nicole Thompson and Pamela Sima; three great-grandchildren, Alex Tomczuk, Sophia D’Addario and Wyatt Sima and one brother, Conrad Sawicki of Meriden. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10 am at Holy Angels Church, 585 Main Street, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church.
