Edith L. Heidtmann, 94 of Meriden, wife of the late Rudolph A. Heidtmann, died on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Masonicare in Wallingford after a long illness. Born in New Haven, CT on August 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Doty Recor. Edith was very active in the Main Street Baptist Church and later with the First Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at the church thrift store and the Meriden Soup Kitchen. Edith was a lover of all animals and enjoyed cooking, knitting and reading. She was a fun, loving person with many friends but most of all, she loved her family and always put her children first. She is survived by her three children. Shelley A. Sundberg, and her husband Robert Sr. of Meriden; Gary J. Dummitt, and his wife Deborah of Plantation, FL and Joseph F. Dummitt Jr. and his fiancée Frances Foley of Cheshire. Five grandchildren; Robert (Yvonne), Jennifer, Lisa, Justin (Charlotte) and Jonathan. Four great grandchildren: Joshua, Jayden, Jazmine and Jacob. Two nieces Barbara Bruneau and her husband Bill of IN and Marilyn Shunk and her husband Carl of CO and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Irving W. Recor and his wife Ann and sister Jessie Boyton and her husband Chester. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St. Meriden. Burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450
