James John LaRosa, 83 died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson’s. James was born in Meriden on July 5, 1932. He lived at the Village of Kensington where he and his cat Rose were well taken care of. He was the son of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Nigro) LaRosa of Meriden. He graduated from Cheshire Academy. James owned and operated Meriden Construction Co., Inc. for many years. He learned his craft as a teenager working for other local contractors before starting his own business in 1953. He was also involved in agencies that governed the construction industry. In 1984, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Call before You Dig, being the first contractor in the country to do so. In 1988 he served as President of UCAC. James LaRosa was an accomplished pilot and flight instructor operating his own plane for many years. He used to say this was the hardest accomplishment he ever made. James loved his music. He was also an accomplished Jazz musician, who played the trumpet, standup bass, and was the leader of The Jim LaRosa Band. He was a member of the Masons, the Elks and Knights of Columbus. For the last few years, Uncle Jimmy was able to open up his heart to his family. We are so grateful to have shared some of his life. He is survived by his niece, Jenine LaRosa-Monthei, two nephews John and Joseph LaRosa and several grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his two brothers, John R. LaRosa and Joseph S. LaRosa, and his twin sister. Per James’ wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. His family would like to give a special thank you to all of the Aides, Nurses and Staff at the Village of Kensington for all the care and friendship they gave him and Rosie. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450.
