June Salay, 77, loving wife of Julius E. Salay passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a lengthy illness. Born in Bronx, NY on December 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Taber Fortune. June resided in Meriden for the past 16 years and attended schools in New York. Mrs. Salay was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and also a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed her time at the Senior Center. June made mittens annually for the Christmas Giving Tree at the library and the 3rd grade class at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. She was known as the Mitten Lady at the library. Besides her husband Julius, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara Torrente and her husband John of Meriden; two sons, Edward Salay of Meriden and William Salay of NY; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Allison Torrente. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 with Reverend David Carey officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday, March 10th from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundation P.O.
