Walter Emery, 93, husband of sixty-two years to the late Lois (Kearney) Emery, died on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Curtis Home after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on March 21, 1921, he was the son of the late Howard and Grace (Saunders) Emery and had graduated from Wilcox Tech. Mr. Emery was an electrician for Wallace Silversmith in Wallingford, retiring after thirty-five years. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Walter was an avid runner and 5 K racer until a hip replacement turned him into a walker at 82. He loved traveling, camping and hitting the flea markets and auctions with his beloved Lois. Some of his best times were spent riverside in Vermont with their grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Godburn and her husband Gerald of Meriden; a son James Emery and his wife Laura Dunn of Madison; two grandchildren, Kevin Paul Godburn and his wife Jessica of New Haven and Lauren Jill Godburn of Meriden and one great-grandchild, Jonah Godburn of New Haven. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy (Emery) Walker and Lucy (Emery) Bartholomew.
