Shirley (Cello) Rizzo, 75, wife of the late Andrew J. Rizzo, Jr., died peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the HOCC, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Meriden on June 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Yanelli) Cello. Mrs. Rizzo was employed by Midstate Medical Center and the former Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and was an active member of B.A.B.E.S. Substance Awareness Program. She loved to cook, read, enjoy summers by the pool and family vacations in Ocean City, Maryland. Her most treasured times were spent with her family and friends. She is survived by four children, Jeffrey Rizzo, Donna Rizzo and her fiancé Paul, Dean Rizzo and his wife Marci and Rosanne Gumlaw and her husband Roger all of Meriden; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Rachel, Brenna, Jordan and Abby; one brother, Thomas Cello, his wife Bonnie and their children Todd and Brian Cello. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4 pm to 7:30 pm.
