Paul Porter

Paul C. Porter, 68, formerly of Meriden, CT, wife of Susan (Ryan) Porter, died on October 23 in Bluffton, SC. Mr. Porter was born in Bath, ME on March 6, 1946 to Marie (Clavette) Porter and the late Conrad Porter. Mr. Porter grew up in Saco, ME and moved to Meriden, CT in 1963, where he graduated from Platt High School. Mr. Porter was a Vietnam Veteran and served with the United States Marine Corps. He began his career as an educator at Cromwell Middle School after graduating from Central Connecticut State University. He also held a master’s degree and an administrative degree from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Porter went on to become vice-principal at Bristol Central High School and later Principal of Seymour Middle School, “The Best School in the Valley”. Mr. Porter led SMS for 16 years and loved every minute of it. Mr. Porter was a parishioner of Holy Angels Parish and then St. Rose of Lima Parish in Meriden. Mr. Porter will be remembered as a happy man with an infectious and loud laugh, always ready with a joke. He loved spending time with family at the beach in Maine and cultivating many family traditions. He was kindhearted, generous, and took time to tell others how proud he was of them. He provided unconditional love and guidance through his final days. Besides his wife Susan and mother Marie, Mr. Porter is survived by his two children, Ryan Porter and Cassandra (Porter) McLaughlin and her husband, John McLaughlin; four grandchildren, Meriden, Emma, Katherine, and Molly. He is also survived by his brother Robert Porter and his wife Dorothy; a brother-in-law, John Ryan and his wife Sandra and many loving nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his father, Conrad Porter, sister, Paula (Porter) Abel and his brother John Porter. The funeral will be held on Monday, November 3rd, at 8:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 9 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 585 Main Street, Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 3 to 6 p.m. Contributions in Mr. Porter’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or The Paul C. Porter Memorial Scholarship Fund, Seymour Board of Education, 98 Bank Street, Seymour, CT 06483.
