Carol A. Toth of Meriden, CT, died at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 after a brief illness. Born on August 5, 1939, the daughter of Anna M. Toth and the late John J. Toth, she graduated from St. Joseph School in 1953, from Meriden High School in 1957 and from Pine Manor Junior College in 1959. Carol earned her B.S. Degree from Cornell University School of Nursing in 1962. She received Masters Degrees in Nursing and in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from New York University in 1973 and 1974, respectively. Carol worked as an operating room nurse at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City for nine years. She worked as a special education teacher for a year and then returned to the field of medicine as a utilization review nurse for various employers including CIGNA, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of CT and the Travelers Insurance Company. In addition to her mother, Carol is survived by her sister Barbara Whitcomb and her husband William of Milford, CT; her niece Karen Bryan and her husband Dave of Franklin, MA; her nephew Brian Whitcomb and his wife Michaela of Cranston, RI; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; her cousin Joe Spisak and his wife Trish of Fairfield and her aunt, Mariska Szenegeto who resides in Hungary. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT and at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 am. Gifts in her memory may be sent to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
