John Baran

John C. Baran, Sr. passed away surrounded by family members at home on Saturday, May 10, 2014. He was the loving husband of Bonnie Baran for 46 years. John was born on November 4, 1927 in Willimantic, CT, one of four sons of the late Joseph and Mary (Griewycz) Baran. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and spent 30 years with AMF Cuno designing industrial water filtration systems. He retired in 1995. In his younger years, John had been an avid golfer and belonged to the Willimantic and Meriden Country Clubs. He was also an active member of St. Joseph Church and School for many years. Known as “Grandpa Wow” to his grandchildren, he will be remembered for his sense of humor and his absolute love of family. In addition to his wife, John is survived by daughter, Mary Baran and son-in-law, Terry Curtis; son, John C. Baran, Jr., daughter-in-law, Ingle and grandchildren, Nicholas and Lily; daughter, Linda Baran; brother, Joseph Baran; nephew, Joseph Baran, his wife Darcy and their daughters, Resia and Kybree; and nephew, James Baran and his son, Avery. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Walter and Edward. John’s family would like to thank, with all our hearts, the many angels at Midstate Medical Center, Gaylord Hospital, Elim Park Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Franciscan Home Care & Hospice Care, as well as his caregiver, William, for the kind and loving care provided and laughter shared with him in the last 4 months of his life.
