Robert Mierzejewski

Robert “Belby” Mierzejewski, 79, husband of Patricia A. (Novak) Mierzejewski, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Midstate Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Meriden on September 22, 1934, he was the son of the late Leo and Wanda (Kloskowski) Mierzejewski. He had resided in Meriden all of his life and had graduated from St. Stanislaus School, Meriden High School, Class of 1952 and Electronic Technical School. Mr. Mierzejewski was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Wonder Bread / Hostess Baking Company which he retired from as a Route Salesman in 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Navy on the USS Lake Champlain from 1952 – 1956. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Mierzejewski was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, was an active member at St. Stanislaus Parish, Treasurer of the Home and School Association, volunteer at the St. Stanislaus School June Festival for thirty years, member of the Holy Name Society, a longtime member of the St. Stanislaus Church Choir, where he especially enjoyed singing “Koledy”, Polish Christmas Carols, supporter of Greater New England Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Springfield and in later years, was a member of the Dutch Hill Neighborhood Watch. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed travel and cruises. His most cherished roles were being a father and grandfather and participating in all of his granddaughter’s activities, whether it was a sporting event or a school play, he was always there. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kim Mierzejewski; one son, Robert Jr. and his wife Debra of Meriden; three grandchildren, Alexa, Nicole and Taylor Mierzejewski all of Meriden; two sisters, Helen Dudek of Wallingford and Francis Jedynak of Wethersfield; one brother, Leonard Sr. and his wife Barbara of Meriden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Edward. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron Street, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter 101A First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451, or to St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron Street, Meriden, CT 06450. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Neil Scollan, The Franciscan Home Care of Meriden and to to the Staff at Midstate Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Robert.
