James W. Vosgien, Sr., 82, husband of Barbarann “Bobbie” Kronenberger Grimes Vosgien for 57 years, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on June 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Lucien and Florence (Miramant) Vosgien. Mr. Vosgien had resided in Meriden and graduated from the Meriden High School, Class of 1949. Jimmy was employed by Acme Fast Freight and Bailey’s Express as dock hand and foreman until his retirement in 1993. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Marines Corp., with the rank of Staff Sargent. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and a member of the North Italian Club. Jimmy loved to veggie garden and fish. He did great at both. Also was an avid New York Yankee, Giants and Boston Celtic fan. The UCONN Women Basketball team were top notch with us and we always watched them together. Besides his wife, whom he call Bob, he is survived by his children; Jaime Landry Sr., of Derry, New Hampshire, Jodie Schmidt and her husband John of Meriden and Keith Vosgien of Paris, France, his grandchildren; Kevin Landry, Jr., and sweetheart Stephanie of Hampstead, New Hampshire and Emily, Max and Isabella Schmidt of Meriden and his great grandchildren; Mikayla and Kenzie of New Hampshire. He is also survived by his sisters; Jean Burdette and dear friend Vincent Conte of Moodus and Carole and Hank Stevens of Nashua, New Hampshire, his brothers; Donald and Evelyn Vosgien of Middlefield and David and Marcia Vosgien of Southington, a brother- in- law Larry Cirillo of Meriden and many nieces and nephews. Jimmy is sadly missed by his beloved long haired dachshund “LitlBit”. He was pre deceased by his infant son, James W. Vosgien, Jr., infant twin sister Lois Joan Vosgien and his sister Kathleen Vosgien Cirillo. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral service to be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
