MERIDEN JOHN R. WNEK
John R. Wnek, 87, of Meriden, husband of the late Annette Auffrey Wnek, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Midstate Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on March 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Kasperkiewicz) Wnek. He had resided in Meriden for his entire life and attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Meriden High School. Mr. Wnek was employed by International Silver Company for over forty years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Woods and her husband Quincy of Meriden; three sons, Paul Wnek and his wife Susan of Meriden, Mark Wnek of Meriden and Andy Wnek of Meriden; four grandchildren, Michelle, Randy, Kevin and Kyle; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Raczka of Middletown; two brothers, Edward Wnek of Meriden and Roman Wnek of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Harriet Mansolf and Viola McKinstry, and four brothers, Henry, Joseph, Leon and Karol.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11 am at St. Stanislaus Church 82 Akron Street, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 3 to 7 pm.
