Martin John Moore, 51, of Meriden, beloved husband of Jeanne Moore, and loving father of Griffin, Brennan, and Morgan Moore, passed into eternal life on Monday, (December 2, 2013) at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Martin grew up in Meriden and was the son of the late Beatrice (Mierzejewski) and John J. Moore. He attended Holy Angels School and graduated from Orville H. Platt High School, where he was also a Special Educator for the past 28 years. Martin received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, as well as a 6th Year Certificate, from Southern CT State University, where he was also an Adjunct Professor, preparing future special educators. Martin began his career as a volunteer at the John J. Nerden Summer Camp at age 12, always knowing he would spend his life enriching the lives of those who were developmentally challenged. Martin tutored many students, taught adult education, and provided interpreting services for the hearing impaired. Martin was also a passionate advocate to parents of children with special needs. Martin enjoyed teaching, music, summers at Hammonasset , Chalker Beach and Cape Cod, and always loved a parade, having participated in and taught various drum corps and marching bands. Martin’s love of people, infectious laughter and energy, helping spirit and undying faith and love of God were unparalleled.
Besides his wife and three children, he is survived by his brothers and sister-in–law, Séan and Kelley Moore, and Kieren Moore, all of Meriden; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Maura and Ronald David of Meriden, and Tara and Jeffrey Drenzek of Middlefield; his Aunt Bernice Moore of Meriden; and many nieces and nephews and legions of cousins. Martin’s family would like to publicly thank the MidState Medical Oncology team, and particularly the Franciscan Home & Hospice Care staff for always providing a high level of care and personal attention.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 6, from 3-7 p.m., at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 10:30 a.m., directly at St. Joseph Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Martin J. Moore Scholarship Fund for the benefit of the Moore children.
