Richard F. Niland Sr., 79, died on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at MidState Medical Center with his loving daughters at his side. Born in Meriden on May 12, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Yvonne (Dupont) Niland. He was a lifelong Meriden resident and had attended St. Joseph School and Meriden High School.
Mr. Niland retired from Logan Steel and worked for many years at Meriden Welding. He served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Eagles Club and the AOH in Meriden.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy (Larry) Jurczak of Portland and Gail (Niland) Woodtke of Meriden; a son, Richard Niland Jr of West Haven; ten grandchildren;twelve great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Robert Niland Sr. of Maine and Jerome Niland of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James L. Niland and Francis Niland.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 7 pm. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, November 25, 2013 prior to the service from 4 to 7 pm.
